Our mission

Making every child’s potential a reality

That’s the mission of PTA, and at Veterans Hill it means something concrete: no student misses a memory because of what it costs, no teacher pays out of pocket for what their classroom needs, and no family feels like a stranger at their own school. We work alongside our principal and staff — never around them — to fill the gaps that school funding was never meant to cover.

We’re a chartered unit of Texas PTA and a member of National PTA, the oldest and largest child advocacy association in the country. That affiliation is what lets a small elementary school PTA operate like a real nonprofit: training for our officers, insurance and financial standards for our books, and a voice for our families in decisions about public education.

What we do

How we support Veterans Hill

Everything below is planned, funded, and staffed by parent and teacher volunteers over the course of the school year.

Family events all year

The VHE Block Party, Grandparents Bingo, Hispanic Heritage Night, Monster Mash, Holiday Movie Night, and the Glow Dance — free or low-cost nights that bring hundreds of families onto campus together.

Teacher and staff appreciation

Monthly meals for our teachers and staff, Teacher Appreciation Week, and small everyday things that tell the adults who spend the day with our kids that this community sees them.

Classrooms and campus

Teacher grants for classroom needs, plus the bigger campus projects our families vote to fund — currently a playground built for play and a revitalized cafeteria.

Volunteers where they’re needed

Welcome Walks, Field Day, class parties, the library, and the book fair. We recruit, train, and schedule approved Hutto ISD volunteers so our staff doesn’t have to.

Communication in two languages

A live event calendar, a family newsletter, and this entire website in English and Spanish — because a family that can’t read the invitation was never really invited.

A voice for our families

Open general meetings where any member can hear the budget, ask questions, and vote — and, through Texas PTA and National PTA, advocacy for every child at the state and national level.

Where the money goes — Our 2026–27 priorities
  1. A playground built for play

Refreshing our playground into a place every student looks forward to — with room to run, climb, and just be a kid.

  2. Monthly meals for our teachers

A catered meal from a local restaurant each month — supporting the educators who serve our students, and a local business at the same time.

  3. A revitalized cafeteria

Beautifying the cafeteria into a warm, welcoming space where students gather each day.

  4. Teacher grants

Grants teachers apply for to fund ideas our regular budget won’t cover — from classroom supplies and technology to hands-on projects, field trips, and enrichment experiences that bring learning to life.

How we’re funded

Where the money comes from

We receive no tax dollars and no district funding. Everything we do is paid for by our own community, through four sources:

Membership dues

About $13 per member for the school year. A portion supports Texas PTA and National PTA; the rest stays with our unit. Membership is a vote and a voice, not a volunteering commitment.

Family donations

One-time or recurring gifts of any size, collected through our secure hosted giving page. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Corporate sponsorships

Local businesses sponsor our year at four levels, from $250 to $2,500, in exchange for recognition with our families. Many employers also match gifts.

Spirit wear and fundraisers

Our print-on-demand spirit wear shop and restaurant spirit nights, where a share of what families spend comes back to the school.

How we’re run

Accountability, in plain terms

  • An unpaid board of parents and staff, elected by our members each spring. We have no employees and no one draws a salary.
  • A budget proposed by the board and approved by a vote of the membership, with the treasurer reporting at every general meeting.
  • Bylaws and financial procedures — including a periodic review of our books — required by Texas PTA’s standards of affiliation.
  • Funds raised at Veterans Hill are spent at Veterans Hill, on the priorities our members voted for.
  • We work in partnership with Veterans Hill Elementary and Hutto ISD, but we’re a separate organization: the PTA is not the school or the district.
